Printing, cutting, and sewing: What does all-over print mean in clothing?

Printing your designs

Every all-over print starts with your artwork. From there, we use one of two printing tehcniques depending on the fabric:

  • Dye sublimation printing (for synthetics): Dye-based inks and heat transfer your design into the fabric for vibrant colors, crisp details, and long-lasting results.
  • Direct-to-fabric printing (for cotton): Water-based inks apply directly to the fabric, giving All-Over Cotton garments a soft feel and natural matte finish.

Both methods cover the entire surface of the product. That’s what sets it apart from direct-to-garment (DTG) printing methods, which only cover one flat area.

Cutting the fabric

After printing, we trim each garment with precision tools to match your layout, whether the design spans sleeves, panels, or seams. Careful cutting keeps your design sharp and aligned from every angle.

Sewing your final product

Our experienced sewing team uses professional-grade machines to assemble every garment. Whether it’s a hoodie, t-shirt, or backpack, each stitch holds up to wear without losing shape.

Printful has been there since day one

My partner and I started Gay Pride Apparel in 2019 as a side business. After a year and a half, we quit our day jobs and decided to focus on our store full time. Printful has been there since day one. They have been our best partner by far.

Printful has fulfilled over $100,000 in orders for me

I've been using Printful since 2017 and sold over $100,000 worth of print-on-demand products that they’ve fulfilled. I’m a big fan of them as a company and their support team is very helpful and quick to respond to any inquiries I’ve had.

Why start an all-over print product line

Sublimation, the technique behind most all-over print, is growing at nearly 11% a year, right in line with the broader print-on-demand boom.

All-over print gives your designs room a standard DTG print can’t. Bold patterns, wraparound graphics, and full-color art that would look cramped on a chest logo actually work here. It’s also a category buyers already search for by name, not one you have to explain to them first.

Frequently asked questions

All-over print is a technique that covers the entire garment with your design, including sleeves and seams. It’s used to create custom print tees, hoodies, and other print-on-demand apparel with full coverage rather than a single printed area.

All-Over Cotton is a full-coverage printing technique for natural fabrics like cotton. Unlike traditional all-over print, which uses sublimation on polyester, this process applies water-based inks directly to the entire fabric before the garment is cut and sewn. The result: breathable, soft apparel with a natural matte finish and high-quality print coverage.

Sublimation or direct-to-fabric inks apply your design depending on the fabric, then the garment is cut and sewn to shape. That’s what lets the print wrap around seams, sleeves, and panels instead of stopping at one flat panel.

An all-over print shirt covers the full garment with your design, not just a chest or back panel. Every seam and sleeve carries the artwork, so there’s no blank space anywhere on the shirt – perfect for repetitive designs like stripes or polka dots.

All-over print refers to coverage: your design is printed across the entire garment, from collar to hem. Sublimation is one of the printing processes used to get that coverage on synthetic fabrics, using dye and heat to bond the design into the fabric.
